Who can audition?

Anyone and everyone!  Every year, students from all sorts of dance backgrounds audition (and get in!).  Whether your experience is in a ballet studio or in your bedroom, we’d love to see you at auditions.  Think of it like a free workout class and a giant dance party!  Also, don’t forget that students from any year are encouraged to come.  In the past, even Spring semester seniors have joined!

What should I expect?

The format of our auditions consists of three main sections: warmup, improv, and learning combos!  The combos are typically contemporary and hip hop, and you can start with whichever one you prefer.  If you’re asked to come to the callbacks, you’ll learn whichever combo you didn’t learn yet.  Don’t worry — we know you probably feel less comfortable with the other style!  We all went through it, so we know it can be scary.  But callbacks is just a place for us to see more of you, because we already love you!

FAQ

When are auditions?

BodyHype holds auditions twice a year — at the beginning of each semester.  See our Home page for more information about upcoming auditions!

What should I wear and bring?

You don’t need to bring anything!  Just wear something you can dance in and makes you feel confident.

Can I audition again?

Absolutely!  Some of our members have auditioned two, three, … even four times because they wanted to join the Red Fam so badly — auditioning again shows passion and determination.  If you aren’t accepted into any student dance companies, know that the Lewis Center has dance classes each semester.  Even if you miss the placement class, reach out to the department!
